Ever wondered how much a decent home theatre system would cost? Anything between 25k to 50k? What if I told you that you could experience great surround sound from a home theatre bundle under 20k? And no, you won't have to compromise on features, quality or looks either.

The LG HT502TH home theatre system includes the standard 5.1 speaker setup and a DVD player with built in amplifier. You can play DVDs, CDs, and even DivX / Xvid content on it. For connectivity the device has Component, Composite and HDMI ports, and the system is 'Simplink' certified (LG's very own technology which ensures better connectivity between devices).

Though the DVD player can upscale a DVD movie, it supports a max upscaling of 1080i, not the full HD 1080p. It would have been better with 1080p, but at the price, you shouldn't be complaining. The AM/FM receiver is a nice addition.

There are a few cut corners of course. For example, the tower speakers feel a little flimsy and are quite light; not something that is desirable in a speaker set. But the DVD player is great; it plays all discs and has a USB port to read music, photo and movies off a USB drive. It read data instantly from the USB drive and took 5 seconds to read data from DVDs or CDs. I wasn't expecting earth-shattering bass, but the system surprised me. Even the surround effects are above average. The fact that the system looks a lot more expensive than it is, is icing on the cake. For a mid-sized room, you would do very well to pair a good 32-inch HD ready LCD TV (about 45k) and this system (17k) to make a complete home cinema in about 62k.
