NEW DELHI: Reiterating its commitment towards embracing latest technology products for its customers, LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd (LFEIL) has launched a new range of 3G technology handsets. According to the company, this new launch will make LG the first company in India to unveil 3G handsets in the country.

Making its foray into the 3G handset market, LG has launched four 3G models - U8110,U8120, U8130 and U8138. "We have launched these models ahead of the market requirement. We know that very soon 3G technology will be rolled out by different service providers, we want to play a major role when it happens in the country," informed LGEIL brand management and product planning head Deba Ghoshal.

The models launched by the company are UMTS (Universal mobile telecommunication system) enabled and will offer a download speed of 384 kbps as against a normal GPRS speed of 48 kbps. The newly launched handsets have capabilities such as live video streaming, video conferencing, 3D gaming, continuous video recording, auto launch browser and USB port. The launched handsets are priced between Rs 16,000 to Rs 30,000.

Even though, no service provider is offering 3G services in India at the moment, LG Electronics is quite upbeat about the market acceptance of this technology in days to come. "Service providers in Mumbai and Delhi are said to be working towards launching 3G services. Things will move fast once we have clear policies on the spectrum front. We are likely to see 3G services being rolled out by different services providers by the end of this year," Ghoshal added.

As the country opens up towards 3G services, the company would be looking forward to aligning itself with service providers for marketing these 3G handsets. "We would be open to the idea of entering into different partnerships with different service providers once the technology gets widespread adoption in India," Ghoshal explained.
