LG to adopt solutions model for monitors

GURGAON, INDIA: LG Electronics has recently revamped its business model and adopted the solutions approach instead of focusing on box selling for its monitors and other optical and display devices.

LG recently renamed its monitor or display devices division to Business Solutions Division in their endeavor to cater to customers across various segments.

Having revamped its business model the company is now looking at enhancing its presence in the commercial segment in addition to the end consumer segment.

Throwing light on the same, R Manikandan, Senior GM—Business Solutions stated, “The demand for monitors from the consumer segment is flat and hence we are looking at concentrating on the B2B or the commercial segment. In the commercial space, consumers look at buying the complete product (desktop and monitor combined) and prefer branded products only, hence we are looking at adopting the solutions approach to cater to their requirements.”

LG will be appointing a host of value added resellers (VARs) and solution providers across the top eight cities, including the metros, to cater to the commercial segment. Commenting on the company’s go-to-market strategy, Manikandan stated, “ We will have clear cut value propositions for the customers to look at and will be targeting the SME and SMB customers in order to expand our presence in the commercial space.”

In addition the company is also aiming at launching innovative display products to cater to customers across various segment. LG will be launching monitor TVs by the end of April.Elaborating further Manikandan said, “A monitor TV is nothing but a PC that also extends the facility of viewing television on it. We will be chipping in more features and will aim at capturing a sizable marketshare in this space.”

For monitor TVs, the company will be relying both on the IT channel (resellers) and trade channel to further the product in the market. LG is looking at appointing partners who have an existing retail space to display the products in addition to selling the same. LG will also be strengthening its sales team internally in order to tap the commercial segment.

Giving an insight into the trends in the monitor space, Manikandan elucidated, “With CRT on its way out, consumers have started buying more of TFT. In addition OLED (Organic Lead Display) technology is going to be adopted widely. OLED offers various benefits in terms of sharper picture, better contrast ratio and ultra lower power consumption.”
