In particular, exports to the Chinese mainland and the US, Hong Kong's the two largest export markets, jumped 32 percent and 19 percent, respectively. Hong Kong as the exhibition capital of Asia not only offers a one-stop sourcing and marketing platform, but also serves as an information hub with information on the latest lighting industry trends for global traders.

Building on the success of the 2013 HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will organise the 6th edition, 6-9 April 2014, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 12 countries and regions expected to participate.

Green and branded devices in spotlight

With continuing demand for eco-friendly and longer-life LED lighting products, Hall of LED & Green Lighting is a must-go zone to source discrete LED components, modules or ready-to-install products.

Safety and the correct use of lighting products are highest priority, and then come energy efficiency and design. International brands have earned their reputation and popularity through product reliability and innovation. This year, more than 130 brands will converge at the Hall of Aurora, including the renowned Everlight, Gentos, TCL, Viribright, offering products with an assurance of quality.

The Spring edition is characterised by its product diversity. According to products' functionality, the fair is carefully sectioned into a number of product zones, such as the World of Chandeliers, Display World, Commercial Lighting, Technical & Outdoor Lighting, Decorative Lighting, Lighting Accessories, Parts & Components, etc.

New talents glow

To help build the reputations of young designers in the market, HKTDC will provide a stage for these up-and-coming talents at the Avenue of Inspiration to showcase their original ideas and new concepts. The participating designers will be brought into direct contact with professional trade buyers from the global lighting industry at the fair.

Exhibitors and buyers praise fair

In 2013, both exhibitors and buyers greatly appreciated the numerous opportunities generated by the fair.

"We have met with many new buyers including those from Europe, South America and Southeast Asia. We also have had serious discussions with a buyer from a famous hypermarket in France as well as buyers from Germany and Thailand who are interested in acting as our agents in their markets. We'll continue our negotiations with them after the fair. The fair is a great place for us to establish business connections with international buyers and also to exchange market information with industry players," said Roger Tang, Sales manager, IPW EUROPE, France.

Vadim Senechkin, chief executive, Compact-Optima, Russia, said: "In business for 15 years in Russia, our company is a wholesaler of LED lighting products serving the domestic market. It's my first time attending this fair. I am looking for LED testing equipment and new suppliers of LED products. With the assistance of the HKTDC's business matching team, I have found the right supplier for testing equipment and already bought one set at $6,000. I have also talked to some potential suppliers. Besides, I like the timing of the Spring Lighting Fair because lighting products sell very fast in winter and spring is a good season for me to buy lighting products for winter."

For the 2014 fair, the 7th Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition with the theme of Blossom Blooms this year encourages contestants to blend aesthetic impressions and emphasise on originality and functionality to showcase the vibrancy and liveliness of Spring through their innovative lighting designs; winning pieces will be on display during the fair.

Enlightening events

The Asian Lighting Forum covers subjects such as global market trends in lighting product development and LED technology advancements and applications. In a range of informative events at the fair, buyers will share market insights at forums on business opportunities in different markets, and industry representatives will give the latest update on lighting design trends in terms of fashion and function.
