MUMBAI:
Intelenet Global, one of the leading BPO companies, has given scores of its
employees from a single project the option to leave in an amicable fashion.
The employees from Household project have been asked to inform the company by
Friday (June 16), whether they would like to continue in the same company or opt
out, in case they chose to leave they will be given one month's gross salary.
At a meeting on June 13, the employees the senior management team gave the
employees the option to leave. The managers reportedly assured the team members
that by default all the people will continue to remain the employees of
Intelenet, in case they wish to continue.
Since, people tend to feel disheartened and leave when a project ends, it is
better for the company and the employee to be transparent, was the reason given
by the managers. The reluctance on the part of the management arises because
'redeployed' employees are often on the lookout for other jobs and are low on
confidence. The number of people in the project was quite substantial. No
official comments were available from the company.
Intelenet Global has four centers in India, three in Mumbai and one in Chennai.
The Household project was handled in one of the Mumbai branches. The company was
coaxed into taking such a move due to the loss of the project, which according
to sources was worth a few millions. Household is a popular credit card company
in the U.S. and was recently acquired by HSBC. Since HDFC Bank and Barclay
promote Intelenet jointly, HSBC decided to shift the project to one of their own
centers.
