CHENNAI: Lason India, an early entrant in the BPO sector has successfully
implemented the Campus Model in Nehru Memorial Arts and Science College (NMC) at

Puthanampatti, Trichy, for the first time in the country.

Nehru Memorial College, established in 1967, is an autonomous institution
affiliated to the Bharathidasan University, offering undergraduate and

postgraduate courses with a special focus on IT.

Located in a small village — Puthanampatti, 30 kms away from Tiruchirapalli,
the college has over 3000 students on its roll with nearly 60 per cent

residential students.

The BPO course curriculum had been designed with the objective of making the
students employable as soon as they complete their college. The curriculum fits

into three semesters, which includes both theory and practical exposure,

expected to give hands-on experience and to make students

"Industry-Ready" on the completion of the

course.

This is offered as an elective subject to graduate and postgraduate students.

Lason India offered intense training to the lecturers at Nehru Memorial Arts and
Science College with hands on experience in-order to train the students more

effectively at their college.

Speaking about the project to CyberMedia News, Thomas Denomme, director, Lason
India said: "Our organization has constantly been in the forefront to

explore new avenues in implementing high standards of BPO services in India.

Realizing the boom of BPO industry in the near future, we then comprehended that

the easy way to meet the growing

demands of the industry would be to train the young talent with a clear-cut
course module that would cater a combination of theoretical and practical

knowledge. We are highly enthused by the kind of reception we have received for

this course module from various

educational institutions across Tamil Nadu."

Jaykumar, vice president — Operations, Lason India said, "The course
model has been conceptualized and rolled out by Lason India very recently. Three

of the faculties from NMC took up the course on BPO-Healthcare at Lason India.

This was followed by, designing of the curriculum for the BPO-Healthcare. Out of

150 students who opted to

take the course, eighty of them were selected for the pilot batch."

The faculties were given intensive training on the high-level practical aspects
of the BPO industry that enabled them to coach the students more proficiently.

The entire course module had been custom-built by incorporating most up-to-date

developments in the BPO industry.

Apart from providing support in terms of training the students, Lason India also
set-up the infrastructure facilities like computers, e-mail connectivity and

also financial assistance to fund their own education.

The trained students would now do the data processing and send the data with the
required Quality to LASON within the turn around time.

On the new and innovative initiative, college principal, Dr S Ramalingam said,
"The entire curriculum has been designed keeping in mind, the latest

advancements and requirements of the BPO Industry. Since the course also caters

the practical knowledge, it enhances the confidence level of the students by

laying a very strong foundation."
