Performing LAN validation tests virtually eliminates performance failures that would otherwise be discovered by actual users in the course of normal business operations, stressed Fluke Networks as it released an enhanced suite of LAN validation tests as part of its EtherScope Network Assistant.

As much as $20,000 per LAN can be saved each year using LAN validation tests during network installation and when making changes to the network, it adds. This could be through maximized network performance and minimized downtime by identifying and correcting problems at the conclusion of a LAN infrastructure project.

Validating LANs and proactively resolving problems as a press release said, is more cost effective than reacting to user complaints and troubleshooting a live, production network.

The suite provides RFC2544 tests (throughput, latency, loss, back-to-back) plus advanced tests such as loss rate, jitter and bit errors, Fluke Networks explains.  Custom test scripts can be created to automate tests for the turn-up of specialized services and to establish test limits for simple pass/fail results analysis. Simple, fast loopback testing is made possible by using EtherScope with a low-cost LinkRunner Pro Reflector.

Fluke Networks operates in installation and certification, testing, monitoring and analysis of copper, fiber and wireless networks used by enterprises and telecommunications carriers.
