L&T bags orders worth Rs 579 crore

MUMBAI: Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T) has been awarded a Rs 403 crore

contract by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPC) and a Rs 176 crore

order from Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC). ECC, the

Construction Division of L&T, will be executing the project for NPC, which

involves execution of their turnkey electrical contract at 500 MWe Tarapur Units

3 & 4 in Maharashtra. The project when implemented would become the first

500 MWe nuclear power plant in the country.

The scope of work involves design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and

commissioning of the entire electrical equipment and ancillaries required for

both the Units. This includes installation of 400 kV and 220 kV gas insulated

switchgear, hotline washing system, generator circuit breakers, transformers, DG

sets and isolated bus ducts on a total turnkey basis. Most of the critical

equipment will be imported. ECC is expected to complete the work by June 2005.

The other project with GIDC, Bharuch has also awarded Rs 176 crores turnkey

contract to ECC, for setting up facilities for disposal of treated effluents

from Vilayat in GIDC Industrial Estate to the sea in the Gulf of Khambhat. This

is a first of its kind project in India and a major step towards environment

protection and sustaining bio-diversity.

The work involves design, supply, laying, jointing and commissioning 55.5 km

pipeline conveying system - both on shore and offshore including construction of

pumping stations with electro-mechanical services and cathodic protection on a

total turnkey basis to be completed in a stringent time frame of 18 months.
