NEW DELHI: Talking Phrasebooks by GrapeCity India has bagged the US Handango Champion Award for Best Industry Application for Pocket PC for 2005. The software is designed for those on the move - business travelers, tourists, and students who constantly go to countries where the native language is not English.

According to the press release, Talking Phrasebooks is a mobile application that can be downloaded onto a PDA. It contains over 2,000 essential phrases and terms in both English and the native language (French, German, Italian and Spanish) when all optional add-on modules are installed. It displays phrases in English or the native language by topic or alphabetically. It also finds all entries in either language that contain the words or characters you're searching for, and instantly shows the translation of any chosen English phrase in the native language or vice versa. One click and users can hear the translation out loud in a clear native voice. It also repeats the pronunciation automatically according to your preferences, to aid practice and memorization. Users can also save selected phrases in a personal Bookmarks category. In Quiz mode, it lets users test their knowledge with flashcards and tracks their progress over time.

Speaking on the Award, GrapeCity India delivery services president Ashoke Ghosh said, "The Indian software industry has been leaving its mark across the world. We have always strived to provide the best products to our clients across the world. This award is recognition of our efforts and the hard work put in by the mobile application development team in India. It is a great honor that the Phrasebooks project has bagged many prestigious awards in the US."
