“NHIC handles sensitive personal health information, so a robust security solution that allows us to enforce our IT policy for all applications and traffic is essential,” said Hwang Sang-Gu, manager of National Health Insurance Corporation.

He added that with Blue Coat ProxySG appliances, they gain visibility into Web applications and content crossing their Internet gateway, allowing them to better protect the confidentiality of their patients and prevent malicious content that could be introduced through Web use from spreading through their system.

As the national health organization of Korea, NHIC is subject to regulations protecting patient confidentiality and any security breach could be damaging to both the organization’s reputation as well as public confidence in it, said a press release.

NHIC deployed Blue Coat ProxySG appliances to ensure the privacy of confidential personal information through the use of internal and Web-based applications by employees and patients.

Blue Coat ProxySG appliances enable NHIC to securely control employee access to internal applications and patient access to Web-based applications that are utilized for scheduling appointments, managing prescriptions and viewing test results, the release added.

With the ability to inspect SSL-encrypted traffic, ProxySG appliances can also apply consistent IT policies to applications that would otherwise be obscured from inspection and policy enforcement, the release added.

“Web use can open a door through which spyware or malicious applications can enter and sensitive information can exit,” said Matt Young, vice president, Asia Pacific region, Blue Coat Systems.

He added that Blue Coat ProxySG appliances help organizations like NHIC see and secure Web-based activity to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
