The delegation led by Francis Meja, Registrar of Motor Vehicles had come to study about this e-governance initiative. To implement this initiative, Kenyan Government will seek assistance from the Punjab Government.

"The Kenyan government is keen on replicating the Punjab system for online application of road sector documents such as driving licences and motor vehicle registration certificates. We also wish to adopt Punjab's model for sharing data through internet and mobile technologies," said Meja.

To develop a transport integrated management system with all functional capabilities, the team is carrying on a bench marking study.

"The introduction of e-governance in the transport department has enabled Punjab to become a leading state in the country to simultaneously introduce smart card facility for driving licences and registration of vehicles, besides the introduction of other services such as the issuance of learner's licence by college principals," said Mandeep Singh, Secretary, Department of Transport, Punjab.
