According to the test results, the Kaspersky Lab solution detected and blocked over 99 pcer cent of current threats and was awarded the highest ADVANCED+ rating.

A press release said that the testing by AV-Comparatives simulates real-world scenarios for home computers and involves a comprehensive assessment of an antivirus product’s overall performance rather than just individual components.

Testing was conducted on a Windows XP Service Pack3 platform with several popular applications installed that are most frequently used by cybercriminals to launch attacks via vulnerabilities. All this means the test system is as close as possible to a real user environment.

The release adds that all the participating products, including Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, were installed with default settings and could update their antivirus databases and connect to cloud security systems. Four different tests imitated common scenarios such as visiting infected sites and downloading malicious files. The AV-Comparatives specialists evaluated both the number of successfully blocked threats and the amount of false positives. The test results revealed that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 neutralized 99.4 per cent of the more than 2000 malicious programs used. This impressive performance placed the Kaspersky Lab solution among the top three and earned it the highest ADVANCED + rating from the AV-Comparatives experts.

“The results of tests that simulate real-world situations have always been of great interest to us. They allow to get the most objective evaluation of a product in terms of how relevant it is and how well it meets the user’s security requirements. AV-Comparatives test examined the solutions’ ability to block threats which were active at the time of testing, including those using social engineering techniques. Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 not only demonstrated excellent results but also improved on its previous score from the second half of 2011," said Oleg Ishanov, Head of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky Lab.
