The seminar aimed at spreading awareness about the new set of technologies involved in DV recording and at establishing DVD+RW/+R as a format of choice through promotion and to establish compatibility of DVD+RW/+R related hardware and media products.

DVD+RW alliance events have so far been organized outside India mainly in the US, Europe and Japan. In view of the emerging importance of Indian optical storage media industry and the fast track market growth, the DVD+RW Alliance Board chose India as a location for this event.

Kiran Karnik, president NASSCOM opened the seminar. The seminar discussed on wide range of topics in the field that included DVD Format Comparison, Benefits of using +R/RW, Speeds of DVD Drive and DVD+RW, Playability of DVD+R/RW on legacy DVD Drives and players and mechanisms of recording in +R/RW formats.

“NASSCOM decided to participate in this seminar because as manufacture of DVD players picks up, the software needs be it for compatibility of different formats, converting one format into another, etc. will also increase. We expect this to stimulate a lot of software development,” Karnik said.

MBIL CMD Deepak Puri said, “An event like this offers and opportunity to develop a knowledge curve about newest technologies and explore better compatibility tools for recording DVD and understanding of 3rd generation DVD formats. Indian market is ready for penetration and Moser Baer is ready with all the optical media storage solutions.”
