Karnataka to unveil 3 new policies on IT sector

BANGALORE, INDIA: The 13th edition of Bangalore IT.biz, the annual IT event, will be held for three days at Hotel Lalit Ashok here from October 28 to 31.

Finance Minister Pranab Kumar Mukherjee would inaugurate the event and release three new policies pertaining to information communication technology, hardware and animation, said information technology and biotechnology minister Katta Subramanya Naidu.

Bangalore IT.biz 2010 is being organized by the department of IT, BT and Science & Technology; and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Bangalore.

The new policies are expected to focus on promoting infrastructure and incubation centres to allow entrepreneurs to start operations in a plug-and-play mode, construction of IT parks and allotment of lands on a need-based model to mega IT projects and creation of product-specific IT, ITeS and hardware special economic zones.

“The state will unfold its new policy on hardware and animation either on October 28 or 29, besides the ICT policy,” said the minister.

He also said the first phase of Karnataka’s Rs 1 lakh crore Information Technology Investment Region on about 10,000 acres at Devanahally near Bangalore International Airport would take off by the first week of December. The government has already notified 2,072 acres for the project and another 8,000 acres would be notified in a week’s time.

The minister said Karnataka will be the first in the country to have such a region to promote investment, augment exports and generate employment.
