Karnataka to be key hiring destination for BPO/KPO, ITeS, telecom, software & IT in 2017

BANGALORE, INDIA: Karnataka is set to see an increase in hiring from the BPO/ KPO, ITeS, Software and IT as well as telecom sectors, according to India Hiring Intent Survey 2017, marking an increase of five to ten per cent in the hiring intent in these sectors for the coming year.

Although Maharashtra inches ahead of Karnataka as a preferred destination for hiring in Software and IT, but Karnataka remains the favorite destination for hiring in BPO/ KPO, ITeS, and telecom.

Pankaj Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO, PeopleStrong, said “Bangalore is a conglomeration of many IT companies, be it largest IT firms of India, the fastest growing ones or numerous technology startups. As per the India Hiring Intent Survey, though the large IT, BPO/KPO/ITES firms might experience this increase in hiring; there are lot of firms – startups, small and medium size – who are expecting to grow at a much faster pace resulting in an overall positive outlook.”

The preferred age group for hiring in BPO/KPO and ITeS sector is 22 to 25 years and 26 to 29 years in Software and IT sector which shows a clear inclination towards young candidates.

While engineers are still getting hired the most followed by general graduates and MBAs, one interesting finding is that undergraduates with some professional courses are hired more than the candidates from Masters, ITI ad polytechnic courses.

However, gender-wise percentage for males and females in all above sectors is just around the magic number of 33% i.e. 62.63% and 37.37% in BPO/KPO and ITeS and 70.71% and 29.29% in the Software and IT sectors.

The survey was a part of India Skills Report 2017, jointly done by HR tech company PeopleStrong, global talent assessment company Wheebox, Linkedin, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Association of Indian University (AIU), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
