Karnataka IT secy takes a bow

BANGALORE: The Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Department of IT and Biotechnology, Vivek Kulkarni, has retired from service, opting for a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) with immediate effect. Confirming this news Minister of State for IT and Tourism, Government of Karnataka, DB Inamdar, says, "he has opted for VRS and has three months time to withdraw it, if not it is as good as accepted." Repeated attempts to contact Kulkarni proved futile.



As per information received, Kulkarni exited today amid emotional adieus and came as a shock to many. "He is going on leave as he has accumulated enough leave over the years," stated, Inamdar. Presently the responsibilities have been handed over to Director of Information Technology, Government of Karnataka, Jawaid Akhtar.



However, Secretary for e-governnance, Government of Karnataka, Rajeev Chawla is rumored to be the likely candidate for the post, while erstwhile Director of IT, Government of Karnataka, EV Ramana Reddy is also in the race for filling Kulkarni's position.



With the city's annual IT extravaganza, BangaloreIT.com a month away, filing in the IT Secretary position becomes a priority for the government as the event is spearheaded by the Department of IT and its chief. "A decision will soon be taken in view of the forthcoming BangaloreIT.com," added Inamdar.



Kulkarni is rumored to join the corporate world. Prior to this assignment, Kulkarni has worked as Secretary (resources), financial department, Government of Karnataka. Earlier he was also the head of CRISIL Advisory Services, Division Chief, SEBI, Deputy Commissioner, Chitradurga. "He was a good officer and executed his role very efficiently. I wish him all the best in his future roles," wished, Inamdar.
