Karnataka IT dept. hosting an 'Appathon' for mobile developers on Dec. 9

BANGALORE, INDIA: The Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka, alongside Mobile 10X (An IAMAI initiative) will conduct an invitational Appathon that will set the stage for all the mobile developers across the country to come and show-case their skills. The 8-hour challenge is taking place on Dec. 9  during ITE Biz, Bangalore. HackerEarth is hosting the registration and idea submission on its platform for this.

The objective will be to come up with solutions on the five selected themes-

  • Engage, Inform & Educate the Job Seeker (Department of Employment& Training)
  • Clean Cities for Swachh Bharat (Department of Municipal Administration)
  • Easy Reporting & Verification of Accident FIR (Department of Urban Land Transport)
  • Make Karnataka a Child Labor Free zone (Department of Labor)
  • Easy Complaints Reporting and Redressal System (Department of Municipal Administration)

The best 25 of the app developer teams would be selected based on an offline Appathon and shall get the opportunity to hack their way through a challenge on December 9. The event is expected to draw audience who are potential recruiters, venture funds and senior government officials from across the country.

A total of Rs 3.5 Lac prize money will be distributed to winners selected by a jury consisting of industry players and related Govt department representatives. The selected winners will also get an opportunity to closely work with the Government to take the winning idea to a pilot stage.

Manjula, Principal Secretary, Dept of IT, BT and S&T said, “Supporting technologies with social impact, has been defined as one of the key objectives of the recently announced Startup Policy of the state. We believe that events like this shall help in channelizing the energies of the youth towards contributing to societal good and that too in partnership with various government departments of the state. We invite all App Developers to participate in this maiden journey”

The teams are expected to bring to the table the use of latest mobile tech components to enhance solutions like, Location Based Services, Heat Maps, Geo-tagged photos, Mobile based registration and Push services presenting futuristic and out of the box solutions that may be the need of the hour.
