NEW DELHI, INDIA: Following the rejection of her bail plea by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, DMK's Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi is likely to move the Supreme Court in a day or two to seek bail, sources from her legal team said, though some other sources said Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar are advised 'not to rush' to the Supreme Court.

Besides Kanimozhi, the high court also dismissed the bail plea of Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar.

Both, charged as co-accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, are currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Kanimozhi will challenge the Delhi High Court verdict that rejected her bail plea on the ground of the possibility of her tempering with witnesses and evidence.

Waiting to get a copy of the high court verdict

Sources close to her legal team said that they were already working on moving the apex court and were waiting to get a copy of the high court verdict.

They said if everything falls into place, they would submit the plea before the vacation bench of the apex court on Thursday or Friday. Kanimozhi's lawyers are expecting the plea to be heard June 13.

While dismissing their plea for bail, the High Court said that given their political and money influence, Kanimozhi and Kumar were capable of tampering with evidence and influencing the witnesses.

The court also took into account the seriousness of the offences that Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi, and Sharad Kumar have been charged with.

However, some sources said that Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar are advised 'not to rush' to the Supreme Court. The family is in constant touch with senior SC counsel Ram Jethmalani who reportedly advised for patience, said the source.

DMK MP Selvaganapathy, who is also a lawyer, met Kanimozhi in the courtroom and shared a similar piece of advise. The closure of courts due to summer vacation is perhaps the apparent cause of concern for the accused, and she is expected to move the Supreme Court, sometime soon.
