The design (in picture) has been recommended by the jury to the Cabinet for approval, said a Rediff report. A decision in this matter is likely to be taken soon.

However an official confirmation has not yet come. "It is proud moment for me. But I cannot rely on a media report alone as I have yet to get a confirmation from the finance ministry," Rediff.com quoted D Udaya Kumar as saying.

Kumar said, "My design is based on the Tricolour, with two lines at the top and white space in between. I wanted the symbol for the Rupee to represent the Indian flag. It is a perfect blend of Indian and Roman letters: a capital 'R', and Devanagari 'ra', which represent rupiya, to appeal to international and Indian audiences."

Kumar was one of the five finalists whose designs had been shortlisted for final approval. The winner awaits a prize money of Rs 2.5 lakh.
