The capacity upgrade applies to all MX series services, including Juniper’s MobileNext, an open mobile core for next-generation wireless networks.

The new edge routing throughput of the MX Series reduces the total number of required network devices while delivering a platform to perform at less than 4 watts per Gigabit of processed traffic, claims Juniper.

The MX Series supports up to three times the subscriber capacity and double the platform and rack capacity of competitive platforms at less than one-third the total power consumption, adds the company in a release.

As per Juniper, a single MX960 can support eight million mobile subscribers or 10,000 business virtual private networks (VPNs). With the new capacity, a single MX960 is also capable of processing more than 8 billion views on YouTube a day, more than two times the average daily views of the website globally.

“Cloud and mobile computing are driving ever-higher demands on the network, and the MX Series is the industry’s only edge routing platform that can scale with these new requirements while delivering lower total operating expenses,” said Stefan Dyckerhoff, executive vice president and general manager for the Platform Systems Division at Juniper Networks. “Juniper’s edge routing solutions have proven to be the industry’s most efficient across multiple metrics, including power, cooling, density, reliability and scalability, and the new MX Series capacity further extends that track record.”
