Jio Glass just gave us major Iron Man's "E.D.I.T.H" feels: Here's why

When during the AGM, Reliance announced the launch of "Jio Glass", it took no time for us to fawn over it. The telecom giant joined the race to democratise Mixed Reality (MR) technology and gave us a new product. It will join the company's focus areas that bet on the cloud, 5G, AR and Virtual Reality (VR).

Well, the reason behind most of the millennials searching for its price can be its innate similarity to Iron Man's E.D.I.T.H. The product gave us a major flashback to Spiderman: Homecoming. Remember when Peter Parker wears the glasses and enters a whole new realm (and fights a new monster)? Now, this can be a chance for Marvel Fans to experience the delight of an AR (and MR).

E.D.I.T.H is the AI glasses that Tony Stark created. The E.D.I.T.H Glasse is voice-controlled, has a large directory, controls tech-related within Tony's reach, like calling, connecting, sending text messages, and delete pictures from anyone's camera roll. Way too advanced for Jio Glass, but we get the hint.

This may not be first of its kind, because Google’s Daydream View VR headset and Facebook’s Oculus Go are some of the big names in the space. They had a lot of fan following, but they struggled to keep it up. But, Jio Glass aims to bring the real and the digital world together. It gives a peek into the future where the movies from the 1940s showed us how 2020 would look like.

Tesseract, the Startup that developed it

If we couldn't still find it connectable. here is another direction. The product is designed and built by Tesseract. Tesseract is a deep-tech startup that RIL acquired in 2019 for an undisclosed amount. Kshitij Marwah found the startup at a small warehouse in Mumbai. With a team of 55 employees based out of Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai, the startup has so far launched products such as a virtual reality 360-degree camera called Methane, largely taken up by the real estate aggregators like Housing.com or travel sites like MakeMyTrip, and a VR 360 degree camera called Quark, except this, could be attached to a smartphone for content creation purposes.

Talking about the product RIL President Kiran Thomas said at the AGM said: “Jio’s latest innovation, Jio Glass, is at the cutting edge of technology. It provides best-in-class Mixed Reality services to give users a truly meaningful immersive experience."

Imagine being in a room, connecting over with people who are visible to you inside your spectacles? That is some futuristic stuff. Although the company did not exactly specify how it will work, it is the talk of the town. They demonstrated how this will help schools and business with classes and meetings respectively. User will be able to create a 3D virtual room where others can join and conduct a class or a meeting. Using these 3D virtual rooms, the users will be able to use holographic images of self, showcase graphs and other presentations.

Kiran further added that it will need to stay connected to a smartphone using a wire. It will bring support for 25 apps that will enable augmented reality video meetings, games, movies, learning and more. It will also sport a high-resolution display for the user to have a crystal clear experience in the meetings.

Although the product may not be as smart as in the comics or the movies, we are pretty excited about it. This product can show us that the idea of E.D.I.T.H is not a far fetched reality.
