JEE Main and NEET 2021: Gear up for what Education Minister has to say

The HRD Ministry had made an eligibility announcement on July 17. Accordingly, students who clear JEE Advance 2020 will be eligible for admission in nationwide IITs regardless of their scores in the Class 12 board exams this year. The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced it via Twitter. He said, “Due to the partial cancellation of class XII exams by several Boards, Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE Advanced 2020 qualified candidates this time.”

This gave rise to rumours that NTA might also reduce the syllabus for students appearing for JEE Advanced. But, in a press statement, the National Testing Agency has confirmed that this will not happen. IIT Delhi, the organising institute, also confirmed the news.

IIT Delhi on change in JEE Advanced syllabus

It also said that the matter will not go to the Joint Admission Board.

Since CBSE cut almost 30% of the syllabus for Class 9-12 for the academic session 2020-21, the news started doing rounds. But fortunately, the next year's syllabus does not affect this year's JEE exams. As for the next year's exams, we will hear from NTA about it later this year.

Previous Criteria

The original criteria for seeking admissions in IITs was to score 75% marks in your board examination in Class 12. This was in addition to clear the JEE Advanced. But since the exams have been postponed multiple times, and CBSE not held, the HRD Min decided not to go with the same criteria.

The official statement also confirmed that this year, they have changed the criteria for admissions into IITs, not the syllabus. If you have cleared the JEE Advance 2020, you are eligible to get admission to IITs.
