JALANDHAR, INDIA: Five incidents of theft within two months at IT shops in Jalandhar have spurred Jalandhar Computer Dealers’ Association (JCDA) to call a one-day strike. Members were protesting against the police for their failure to keep a check on security, giving rise to thefts, frauds and robberies in the region. The strike was called on Nov 10.

"We have filed a complaint to SSP at Jalandhar police station asking them to take proactive steps against the increasing theft and fraud incidents in the town," informed Rajiv Khanna, member of JCDA.

On November 8, a group of burglars fled with cash and 60 laptops worth Rs 50-55 lakh from Jalandhar-based Impel Infosys. On Nov 6 another theft incident of laptops worth Rs 20 lakh occurred at ITJ Stores.

Giving the latest update on the incident, Khanna informed that till now police has not been able to get hold of any substantial clue on the thefts.

Commenting on the theft at his store, Manish Nagpal, CEO, Impel Infosys shared that it looked like a gang of burglars were involved in the incident, as there has been similar incidents across Jalandhar.

“The involved men have taken only laptops, accessories and cash. Even in ITJ Stores, only laptops and accessories were stolen. The police are interrogating a few people and we are hoping that the involved men will be caught soon,” Nagpal informed.

The incident indicates that the channel market is crippled with thefts and robberies. Last week only, dealers in Ludhiana observed a day bandh after the robbery incident that happened at Big Byte System.
