IXYS intros three optimised higher current 1.8kV thyristors

LEIDEN, THE NETHERLANDS : IXYS Corp, an international power and IC semiconductor company, announced that its wholly owned UK subsidiary, IXYS UK Westcode Ltd., introduced three new 1.8kV pressure contact phase control thyristors with increased power density.

The new improved designs offer more than 40 percentage increase in current rating over existing designs, while retaining the overall same package footprint. The improvement in performance is achieved by maximising the die size and an improved package design.

The new silicon dice are bonded and encapsulated in fully hermetic ceramic packages with a novel design that have reduced thermal resistance, and the dice have enhanced electrical performance.

The new 2.2 inch die device has an average current rating of 2600A and the package has a 2 inch electrode contact diameter, with an industry standard overall diameter of 3 inches . The new 2.7 inch die devices have average current ratings of 3175A to 3565A and the packages have a 2.6 inch electrode contact diameter, with industry standard overall diameters of 4 inches .

The 2.2 inch die device is available in an industry standard 1 inch thick package and two voltage grades. Designations are: N2600MC160 , N2600MC180 . The 2.7 inch die device is available in two industry standard package thicknesses, 1 inch and 1.4 inch , plus two voltage grades. Designations are: 1 inch thick package N3565HA160 , N3565HA180 and 1.4 inch thick package N3175HE160 , N3175HE
