BANGALORE: Innoviti, a Bangalore-based tech start-up, has commercially rolled out its first product, which enables users to wirelessly connect to the Internet. Called Vaayu, this device is claimed to be the world's first wireless adapter for dial-up modems and is targeted at the growing population of Notebook users.

Vaayu uses NanoRF and ALE technologies, patents for which have been filed by Innoviti. Also, the device does not need any kind of software installation and is pure plug and play. Makers of this device (ex-Sasken employees-Rajeev Agrawal, CEO and Kaushal Singh, VP-Business Development) are also quick to point out that Vaayu is in no way an alternative to WiFi. "This product is very complimentary in nature to WiFi devices. Vaayu offers wireless connectivity where WiFi is not available and a normal dial-up connection through the existing telephone line is the only mode to access Internet," explains Rajeev. He also adds that WiFi adoption in India will still take sometime to mature and that wireless access through dial-up will prove to be far more economical.

Additionally, Vaayu also allows wire-free connectivity to other phone-based equipment like fax machines and credit card swiping devices.

The product is currently selling through Bazee.com and is available at an introductory price of Rs 3,800. The company has also started exploring the right distribution partner for the same, and will also be initiating talks with few Notebook OEMs for bundling the product.

The company has also started development of its next product Mita-a wireless mobile phone extension device and plans to commercially launch it over next six months.

Currently, Innoviti works with a team of 14 people, including the designer of the device-Michael Foley, who is credited with some innovative designs for Titan watches. Vaayu also recently won the BusinessWorld's Design Excellence Award for best consumer electronic product.
