It's Touch Wood for good ROI at Century Plyboards

INDIA: Century Plyboards (I) Limited, the plywood and veneer manufacturing company in India along with its group company Star Cements, has selected IBM’s P6-550 server, DS 5020 storage and virtualization technology to consolidate its Disaster Recovery Centre (DR).

Century Plyboards was an existing user of IBM’s P5550 server, IBM’s DS-4700 storage as a backbone for their ERP infrastructure. Century ply implemented SAP and post go-live they were looking for a redundancy-proof datacenter which can be used to consolidate its disaster recovery centre along with the primary site of Star Cement group. The Disaster Recovery (DR) site will be used by Century ply and also will be used as a primary site for Star cement group as a single consolidated infrastructure.

A press release adds that the implementation will help them save cost and get a return on investment (ROI) of 35 per cent to 40 per cent annually both in terms of with overall Opex and Capex.

“The solution from IBM will help us build a redundancy-proof datacenter for our organization and Star Cement in turn consolidating infrastructure of both the companies. This will strengthen our long term association with IBM as the preferred technology partner” said Deepak Sengupta, Senior Manager-SAP Century Plyboards.

“Our state-of-the-art technology will help Century Plyboards and Star Cement to save their data efficiently at the time of disaster. IBM’s server, storage and virtualisation technology will support the consolidated disaster recovery centre for both the companies ensuring no downtime in view of crisis” said, Ajay Mittal, VP — General Business, Systems and Technology Group, IBM India/SA IBM secured the deal after demonstrating the value proposition on ROI, clear strategy, risk management capabilities and technical capabilities.
