NEW DELHI, INDIA: India's first PSU ITI Limited that contributes more than 50 per cent of national telecom network and offers a spectrum of solutions to the sector is bidding for the Accelerated Power Development and Reform Program (APDRP) projects in three states.

With integrated IT strategy, the program will help state energy departments to reduce aggregate technical and commercial losses.

ITI has already undertaken the restructured APDRP project in partnership with Hyderabad-based Navyug Infotech in Tamil Nadu, which it says would be completed by March 2012. Funded by the Power Financial Corporation, the project will help improve working efficiency and transparency of the subscribers.

Speaking to CIOL, Sanjay Jain, vertical head at ITI Limited, said that they are also planning to set up two mini data centres for which the company is supplying the equipment. “With a focus on reducing transmission losses, ITI has introduced smart metering,” he said.

Smart metering allows all the information from GSM modules to be stored in a centralized server so that virtual reading can be collected. “The timely completion of project will enable us to get incentives from the Power Financial Corporation,” Jain informed.

Jain also said that the PSU is bidding in three states for APDRP that include Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chattisgarh. In Haryana, the company has however reached in the final stages of the process.

The APDRP project involves automating and integrating various utility processes such as metering, asset management, energy audit, GIS-based consumer indexing, network mapping and customer support.
