NEW DELHI: Sun Microsystems and ITC Infotech have announced a Proof of
Concept Center (PoC Center) at the ITC Infotech campus to deliver prototypes for
customers based on iPlanet product components. Sun and ITC Infotech will also
collaborate to offer training in iPlanet technologies that would enhance
individual skill sets to suit the growing demands of the industry. ITC Infotech
will be the first to partner with Sun Education Services for delivering the
iPlanet curriculum in India.
The learning center will deliver iPlanet courses ranging from infrastructure
(Web directory, Calendar, Application) to portal and integration platforms. The
Center would develop solution sets and proof of concepts that would be showcased
to customers. An announcement to this effect was made by Dr. Stuart C Wells-
Senior vice president, iPlanet Product Development, Sun Microsystems and Anoop
Singh, chairman of Retailing, Infotech and Tobacco Division, ITC Ltd. and
executive director- ITC Ltd.
The state of the art "Proof of Concept Center" will focus on
products that will form part of the solution sets for Portal, Application/
Integration, Web and Directory services. The Center would also create reference
architecture and proof of concept in solution domains like Mobile and Wireless
Applications, M-Commerce and application domains like Finance, Retailing and
Manufacturing.
The Center has been built leveraging the SUN iForce partnership framework.
The Center is currently looking to creating a broader range of service
capabilities, and in particular, expands into the education, technology, and
professional services segment. The Center is equipped with an adequate set of
infrastructure components, such as E 250 servers, Sunray clients, Ultra Sparc
workstations, storage and volume management devices, network management and
security devices, server appliances and so on.
The Center is spread across two geographical locations, Kolkata and
Bangalore, connected through a high-bandwidth Virtual Private Network and IPLC.
The Center is currently planning initiatives around the application areas of
mobile sales force automation (using J2ME) and directory services.
