PUNE: iSolv Private Ltd., a Pune-based technology provider for the wireless
carrier market, has launched a chat software called mChat. iSolv has tied up
with BPL Mobile Communications for offering the product along with its service
in Mumbai. Talks are in progress with other cellular providers to enable a
wirefree chatting experience.
The technology developed by iSolv employs low-cost SMS to facilitate wireless
chat similar to Internet based chat rooms. And the fact that no calls need to be
made, give it the distinct advantage over voice based chatting. The technology
works on multiple GSM networks, thereby connecting mobile users in real-time
from different networks in chat rooms at the same time
SMS is a standard GSM feature, which is supported by all handsets (with or
without WAP). Unless a pre-specified SMS is sent for exiting the chat room, the
user stays connected and receives all the messages posted in the chat room.
iSolv plans to tap the European mobile operators and will be going in for
live trials soon. The SMS traffic in Europe is around 8 billion messages per
year. iSolv has been funded by iNester India Venture Fund, which has been
promoted by investment bankers of global repute.
