BANGALORE: Ishoni Networks and Wind River Systems, Inc. have announced a
partnership through which Ishoni will offer customers broadband CPE platform by
packaging Ishoni’s DV2000 Broadband Engine integrated with Wind River’s
VxWorks RTOS.
The partnership permits developers of broadband CPE — including residential
gateways and Integrated Access Devices (IADs) for businesses — to focus their
efforts on those features that provide market differentiation while speeding
their time to market. Under the partnership, Ishoni provides customers with a
60-day evaluation copy of Wind River’s Tornado integrated development
environment (IDE) with Ishoni’s Development Kit platform.
Ishoni chairman and CEO Prakash Bhalerao said, "We have changed the
rules for designing next-generation broadband CPE. Wind River’s lead in the
embedded market gives developers the ability to pair VxWorks with the most
technically advanced broadband CPE platform, which allows them to make more
advanced products, incorporating voice-over-broadband, ideally for DSL, cable,
broadband wireless and optical connections."
"These next-generation devices will act as a hub to connect every device in
the home and the more variety of chipsets we offer, like Ishoni's silicon, the
more we broaden the types of platforms developers can choose when building
gateway devices," said Wind River's Network business unit's group vice
president and general manager, David Fraser.
Ishoni’s VAR relationship with Wind River is part of Ishoni’s recently
announced ‘Lightning Access’ Initiative to give CPE manufacturers more
extensive design tools, software products and OS components for its broadband
engine platform. The ‘Lightning Access’ Initiative will reduce the cost of
broadband CPE, add new features and functionality, and offer a more open and
accessible platform for software developers.
