The ISD720, based on the MotionChip DSP technology, comes embedded with motion controller, drive and PLC functionality in the same open-frame unit.

A fully digital high-precision servo drive, the device is embedded intelligence and a built-in power amplifier and can be used to control brushless DC, brushless AC (vector control), DC brush and linear motors, said a report.

It added that the ISD 720 comes with convenient compact dimensions and 20 A continuous / 49.5 A peak current ratings. The on-board CAN-bus interface allows the drive to be used as an intelligent axis in a distributed-intelligence, multiple-axis network.

The ISD720, incorporating a cost-optimized design, comes across as a flexible solution, adapted for distributed and coordinated control of brushless, DC or linear motors up to 720 W. It accepts incremental quadrature encoders and digital Halls as position feedbacks, the report said.

While the motion programming can be done via PC or PLC using the appropriate motion library, or directly at drive level using the high-level Technosoft motion language (TML) of the built-in motion controller, the motion programming at drive level helps the user to save development time with complex applications.

This becomes possible by way of distributing the intelligence between the master and the drives.
