BANGALORE: CipherTrust Inc., a messaging security provider, today launched IronMail Edge, a messaging security appliance that provides an outer layer of security at the network edge and protection against malicious e-mail threats before they hit any part of an enterprise network.

A study by CipherTrust Research shows that spam accounted for less than 20% of corporate e-mail in 2002, but in 2004 this jumped to over 80%. According to a report from Ferris Research, spam costs $50 billion in productivity worldwide.

CiphetTrust claimed in a statement that IronMail Edge, designed for large enterprises, can eliminate 50% of total e-mail volume before it enters the corporate network. This results in a reduction in e-mail volume and the number of mail servers needed may be reduced.

Since IronMail Edge drops the connection without accepting the e-mail message, the bandwidth required for processing e-mails also can be significantly reduced.

Additionally, if a corporation's mail transfer agent goes down, IronMail Edge's failure recovery feature provides storage and forwarding capabilities. IronMail Edge's plug-and-play installation does not require any significant changes to the network or user environment, and the device easily installs in front of any e-mail gateway or server.
