Iridium India launches world roaming service

BANGALORE: Iridium India Telecom has announced the launch of Iridium world roaming service with BPL Mobile Communications Ltd. This is pursuant to the clearance received from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for national and international automatic roaming of Iridium GMPCS subscribers into cellular networks and vice-versa.



Iridium world roaming service will offer the current Indian cellular subscribers true global roaming. With a single number, subscribers can now enjoy world roaming to international destinations, previously unavailable due to incompatibilities between networks.



Current cellular subscribers can simply purchase or rent a satellite phone adaptor to enable them avail of the Iridium world roaming service. The Iridium world roaming service will be available to both Iridium customers and cellular customers. For roaming on the Iridium satellite network, subscribers will be charged standard Iridium satellite roaming charges. The costs for roaming across cellular networks will be marginally higher than the regular cellular roaming charges. All charges for global cellular usage will be billed to the subscriber in one bill in Indian rupees.
