Iridium India, the
global satellite phone services company, has slashed its handset and airtime
prices by half.
The price of handsets
has been reduced from 1.95 lakh to Rs 0.99 lakh. There's also an additional
call-alert facility.
Airtime prices for
international satphone calls have come down by around 50 percent. The
domestic satcall rates have been reduced by 23 percent from Rs 195 per
minute to Rs 150 per minute.
The company has also
removed the subscription fee of Rs 2,750.
For international
calls, Iridium has simplified the original 15-zone pricing structure ranging
from Rs 300-400 per minute to a flat rate of Rs 170 per minute.
The company also plans
to come up with customized tariff packages to help customers pay less
for the satellite communication.
Further, the calls
will now be metered in 10-second increments instead of the current one-minute
billing.
