According to  report on NDTV, IRCTC Managing Director R K Tandon explained the action plan for capacity enhancement to the Railway Minister CP Joshi at a review meeting. It would cost about Rs. 100 crore to Railways for strengthening the ticketing site.

Currently, the ticketing site of the IRCTC is apparently able to handle about 1.2 lakh concurrent connections on web servers and can book about 2,000 tickets per minute.

Users trying to book their tickets over the IRCTC website have earlier complained about the time the Web page takes to load. 'For the last couple of days I couldn't even get into irctc site, really irritating,'' says Jacob a CIOL reader.

''A very poor site - it is down or very very slow most of the time. Considering that India is providing IT services to the world its own premier user site is so bad,'' says another CIOL reader.

However, one can only hope that with the new measures the government is planning to take, the existing problems will be taken care of.
