AHMEDABAD: Banking on the largest IP based e-governance in Gujarat, Talatis
in local Panchayats are now empowered to issue documents at the local level
using the G-SWAN (Gujarat State Wide Area Network) technology. Chief Minister
Narendra Modi dedicated the E-Gram pilot project at Timbi village of Umrala
taluka in Bhavnagar district.
He emphasized that the initiative will uplift the villages and bring in
revolution. Initially 32 villages of Bhavnagar will be covered under the pilot
project. The Talatis are given power to verify and issue documents that comes
under their authority and power without bothering to send the documents to the
state capital, Gandhinagar.
This will save considerable time of file work that usually marked all the
government procedures. This includes issuance of certificates of day-to-day use,
documents of right of ownership, and other service-related information through
computer connectivity and databank in collaboration with G-SWAN. Apart from
this, the process of tax collection and payments has also been fully
computerized which will ensure transparency.
