“IP forum was created for the first time in the IT.in and it is an initial step towards positioning India as a destination of choice for IP and development of global product companies from India. The SME forum witnessed a tremendous participation with 14000 visitors in a day. Tier two cities gained lot of exposure,” said BV Naidu, director, STPI Bangalore, while addressing the press on the highlights of the Bangalore IT.in.

“The feedback received on the event will be documented to make use of the inputs for the next year event. The dates of the next year IT.in event will be announced by the end of November 2006,” said MN Vidyashankar, Secretary to Government, department of IT, BT and Science and Technology. He also announced that the “IT investors Meet” would be held in Belguam during December this year.

The IP Forum has received a tremendous response and should be carried forward, said Rajeev Mehtani, vice president and site innovation manager, NXP Semiconductors. “A committee on IP will be formed including the government bodies and MNCs to bring about a broad framework for IP, licensing mechanism and other countries stance on IP,” he added.

As in the past years, rural IT quiz and Student Internet World received good response. A record number of 955,457 students from 27 districts across Karnataka participated in the quiz, organised by the state IT department in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The “Student Internet World” programme has become a significant programme over the years in bridging the digital divide, according to the IT.in officials.

With all its highlights, IT.in 2006 had its sore points too. It witnessed less participation from Indian and international companies. However, with IT.in running to its 10th year in 2007, the government is working on a better framework to overcome the shortcomings and ensuring a bigger, better event.
