BANGALORE: Dublin-based system integrator IONA Technologies and Indian IT services major Wipro Technologies today announced that the two companies have entered into partnership.

Wipro will utilize IONA's Artix extensible Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) to deliver Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) deployments that can extend existing enterprise IT assets to new process automation applications.

Wipro, which delivers SOA solutions via its global delivery model, has identified Artix as powerful SOA enablement software that can be deployed to deliver dynamic and adaptive SOA solutions. Global 2000 customers want to generate a greater return on investment from both their existing and future IT assets.

They also need to modernize their systems to support the introduction of new products and services while at the same time lowering their total cost of ownership. IONA and Wipro will engage in joint sales and marketing activities to identify opportunities where distributed SOA, supported by Artix, can be used effectively to help customers meet their business objectives.

The initial stages of the partnership will focus on customers in the financial services industry, and the intention for both organizations is to broaden the scope of the relationship across various vertical markets such as telecommunications, government, and healthcare.

"The financial services industry is being shaped by a number of factors that are causing CIOs to require modern and streamlined IT infrastructure that delivers greater responsiveness and agility to meet new business challenges," said Scott Devens, vice president, Strategic Alliances, IONA.

"Mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues and the demands of customers for new products and services are all driving the adoption of SOA in financial services, and other industries. This partnership combines IONA's enterprise-class technology with Wipro's consulting and deployment expertise to deliver SOA that is well aligned to customers' business and technology requirements."

Speaking on the alliance, David Henderson, group head, Wipro Consulting, said, "We believe that IONA brings a unique approach to SOA that complements Wipro's capabilities to deliver quality solutions to our customers. Together, we make a compelling proposition to organizations that are investing in SOA to achieve true business agility at the lowest cost and in the fastest time possible."
