Shoppers Stop claims that the Iomega desktop NAS architecture across 41 Shoppers Stop group stores, and nine HyperCITY stores, will deliver 50 terra bytes of mirrored storage space from 100 TB of physical storage.

The new solution will enable Shoppers Stop to create a virtual and tape free storage environment and get rid of  increasing inventory of tapes, says the company.

“Iomega’s NAS solution helped us simplify and streamline the data back-up process at our stores. It has made our life much easier by eliminating the non-productive manual tasks of storing and keeping inventory of the tapes at each store or consolidating at a central location,” said Gopakumar Panicker, senior manager, solutions and technology team, Shoppers Stop.

The new facility will also enable Shoppers Stop to do central management and monitoring through IP based storage device. It would also help it have multiple servers sharing the back-up device and faster back-ups compared to tape and faster recovery in case of a server crash.

“The solution helped us to improve resilience while eliminating non-productive tasks such as tape/inventory management and hence the team now focuses on more important aspects,” said Arun Gupta, customer care associate and group CTO, Shoppers Stop.
