NEW DELHI: Invensys has appointed Salora as the national distributor for its

The company also plans to appoint another distributor with strong presence in

the South. It is looking at a channel reach of at least 750 partners by the end

of the exercise. Salora has a retail presence of around 400 partners.

The most exciting product that the company is banking on is the 550 VA, which

has been designed and built indigenously to meet Indian conditions. With an

investment of around Rs 40-50 lakh, Invensys has worked on the product for the

past 18 months. An OEM based out of Chandigarh will manufacture the product.

The company is banking heavily on this product since enterprise spending has

been slow and it is the home and the SOHO segment that looks attractive now. IDC

estimates the growth of this segment to be 16 per cent during the year.

Considering the slowdown and the backdrop of the terrorist attack on America,

this may not be the best time to launch a new product. But avers, Deepak Sharma,

Invensys Power System, "When you do not any market share, this time is as

good as any other time."

The company plans to launch the product separately in each of the six cities of
Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bangalore over the couple of

months. It plans to push 50,000 boxes in the first year.

The 550 VA UPS comes equipped with sophisticated software and will be able to
support two standalone computers. It is likely to be priced competitively in the

Rs 5,000 plus range. Besides, customers would be entitled to freebies worth Rs

1,800 during the introductory offer. Freebies include free Internet access,

software that converts the fonts into regional languages and an encyclopedia on

CD.
