HYDERABAD: Invensys Plc has decided to increase the headcount at its Global Development Center (GDC) in Hyderabad to 300 during the next couple of months. The center now has 225 people working on core development work related to software, testing and integration.

According to Invensys CEO, Richard Haythornthwaite, the company intends to increase the technical dependency of software development from the Indian development center (IDC). "We are extending the relationship with Indian GDC, which earlier used to serve processes business and will now involve with controls business too," he further explained.

"The entire release of the product is taken care of from the Indian center. For process collaborations, a virtual team sitting in multiple locations work simultaneously on operations in multiple modes," added Invensys IDC director Annirudha Dasu.

Invensys' business can be broadly classified into three divisions--production management, development and rail systems, catering to the needs and the processes of batch industries-from oil to gas, power to utilities, chemicals etc. Presently, the company has around four software development centers globally and more than 55 manufacturing centers that employ nearly 23,000 of the total 35,000 employees the company has.

Talking about the restructuring of the centers, Haythornthwaite said, "The focus would be on low cost countries. It could be said that India is quite well-off in software development, which is why we have our presence as one of the largest GDC outside the US, whereas China has more technical centers because of its manufacturing prowess."
