Intl bank invests $1.5 mn in IT migration

ANTWERP, BELGIUM: Anubex, a player in enterprise IT Modernization has been awarded a $1.5 million IT migration contract by a large international bank.

Under this, the bank will be able to sharply reduce the operating costs of its core banking computing while at the same time re-using its existing software applications and the skills of each of its thousands of users, claims a press brief.

In the face of the ongoing crises hitting the world’s major financial institutions, the bank was looking for ways to reduce costs. In order to realize the desired savings, the bank chose to remain with their mainframe platform and migrate with Anubex via an automated software language translation from Natural to COBOL/CICS and DB2, it adds.

“A key parameter in this project is the aggressive timeframe in which the customer needs to go live,” explains Louis Heymans, Managing Director at Anubex. “Without tools, our customer would have to produce over 50 000 lines of fully tested, working code per day for the next six months. Even with 1000 programmers, such productivity is unheard of and having a tool to automate the conversion is the only way to make these spectacular savings in both time and cost possible.”

In all, the entire project will take eight months to complete with about 25 IT experts at both Anubex and the bank working together to bring the project to a successful conclusion. The project will be managed according to SOAR, the best-practice, snapshot-oriented migration process of Anubex.

The migration will target over eight million lines of Natural code in production at various branches of the bank in several countries. The developers at the bank who maintain the current systems will maintain the migrated code using leading, modern development tools like Eclipse.
