BANGALORE,INDIA.

UVIA is a sixteen-year-old association promoted by HSIIDC.This Association is represented by SMB Organizations and is recognized all over the country for its development and successful initiatives. It has over 400 members. Mr. Saxena, President of Udhyog Vihar Industrial Association, believes that its critical to address productivity related issues, cannot ignore competition and have to definitely improve one’s own skills and abilities.

The association works as a platform and catalyst for the growth of the industry. On a day-to-day basis, it also works on resolving policy related issues especially with HSIIDC.

Some of the key issues as Mr. Saxena thinks is affecting the SMB organizations include their incompetency to survive the global competition. Hence, it becomes critical to identify the right opportunities and develop the relevant and required skill sets accordingly. The association develops lots of programs to address this area.

In addition to this, there are several policy matters to be care of, the overall process is not decentralized. Hence, the association efforts have been to decentralize the process. After a lot of efforts, the process set up, decision making is now based in Gurgaon. The focus of the association is always on welfare and development of its members and their organizations. They also organize financial aid for these SMB, like in SIDBI’s collateral free finance.

Mr. Saxena has been in this industry for 25 years and has managed to keep the balance going between his own industry work and that of the association. His philosophy has been that one needs to give back to the society and hence accordingly one needs to make time and contribute. The SMB industry also needed a platform to voice requirements and concerns and act as a bridge between the SMB organizations and the government.

The focus for 2011 / 12 will be to have a new industrial policy, and new state management procedures for the SMB organizations.

The organizations need more support and encouragement and at times the attitude and disposition of various government organizations and agencies can be daunting.

The association builds awareness for its members by regularly sending out circulars and action plans, the members consensus is additionally always taken in the Open House.

His advise for upcoming leaders:

“Do not ignore competition, have to improve one’s skill sets or else you’ll perish. Start a cluster where all strengths can be pooled together, hire technology experts and don’t compromise on quality”
