One of the key objectives of TANSTIA, which is Tamilnadu Small and Tiny Industries Association, is to protect the existing entrepreneurs and developing new industries. And the former objective of protecting existing entrepreneurs and organizations is a key concern for this Association as they face severe problems of development, sustenance and success in the growing industrial climate.

Hence, some of the initiatives includes continuous and sustained training to the SME organizations and involvement in policy matters. Thangaraj has been a member of this group for over 25 years and has held various positions before becoming the term President for 2010 — 2012.  His personal and keen interest to help people has enhanced the initiatives and efforts he undertakes to the development of this Association. In addition to this portfolio, Thangaraj runs his own factories of manufacturing Transformers and Fabrication industries for Boilers.

The Association and its members meet once a meet and once a quarter to discuss various issues, challenges and set the priorities to initiate activities in the right direction. The activities range from training to organizations, organizing and being part of buyer -seller markets, traveling abroad to open up horizons of larger markets, dealing with policies and procedures, legalities of industries and its impact on the SME, guidelines, addressing issues related to infrastructure, labor, day-to-day operations, central excise, sales tax and many more...a strong sense of management and tactfulness is required to address and solve any such issues, he believes.

Mr.Thangaraj also shared some very noble, social thoughts in the course of this chat wherein he shared very accurately that any development of the SME sector will in turn help in developing the under privileged, uneducated segments of the society, will increase employement, growth and success opening up several venues for this segment as a long term benefit. He looks forward to greater support from the Government for strengthening the SME segment.

The 2011 roadmap includes a stong focus on the recently released seperate SME Policy by the State Government, developing a permanent Exhibition Centre in Tamil Nadu and some international tours to develop greater business opportunities.

Thangaraj is very happy to be part of this entire initiative and face the challenges since it means helping this segment which will help further in developing society. On being asked where you get all this energy from, I can hear him smile and say in humility, from GOD!
