HYDERABAD: As a result of Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to provide Internet connectivity deep into the rural areas, some remote areas in Khammam district will soon have Internet facility. The state government of Andhra Pradesh has envisaged a rural Internet connectivity project to provide Internet services in the rural and remote areas and this project is likely to be implemented in 11 mandals of the Khammam district in its first phase, which has already started.

The proposed project when completed would help solve the long felt need to bridge the digital divide among the IT haves and have-nots in the region. In addition to that the desire of the government to provide a wide variety of information at the doorsteps of the common man would receive a shot in the arm.

"Once the project gets going the people of the Khammam region would not only have access to the functioning of the day to day district administration of the government, they can also get their applications cleared through the Net," said J Satyaranayana, IT Secretary for the state of Andhra Pradesh. "The locals of that area can also get their applications seeking financial assistance, loans and other applications and petitions for redressal," he added.

he government is also thinking to add the agricultural and allied departments to provide all the basic inputs for the project. The 11 mandals are Nelakondapally, Mudigonda, Kusumanchi, Tirumalayapelam, Khammam, urban, Khammam rural, Konijerla, Chintakani, Kamepally, Dummugudem and Bhadrachalam. The project envisages setting up Internet kiosks in all the villages of these mandals.

The project once completed will help in reducing the number of visits paid by common people to the government offices as it is going to act as a bridge between the governing bodies and the common masses of the region.
