PROBLEM: For decades consumers have been paying electricity bills based on centralized reading. The technology not only prevents users from controlling their usage of electricity but also fails to encourage optimized use of power.

SOLUTION: Satyam Trivedi, a solution architect at Indrion Technologies, Bangalore, has developed a solution which gives the power in the hands of the user!

Vidyut, a smart wireless/switch flash meter, can be plugged into the switch board or integrated with it. The solution enables users to access their facility’s power consumption data at a central repository on the Internet. This will enable users with distributed control over different plug points, meaning based on the consumption of electricity and importance of use, the users will be able to switch on/off switches over the Internet.

“Such solution is a must for realization of smart grids. Such meters not only provide control of electricity loads, but also can help in developing artificial intelligence with lots of statistical data of electricity usage at different load points,” explains Trivedi.

“Such artificial intelligence will optimize the electricity usage and hence lot of energy saving. Also, final product being Internet enabled will open new business opportunities with current Internet companies hosting electricity usage of users property and suggesting, with intelligent algorithm, better optimization of future usage,” he adds.

A prototype of the product has been developed.
