Intel plans to jointly develop PC in India

CHENNAI: Intel Corporation, the world's largest chipmaker, is looking at jointly developing a personal computer in India, said Dayanidhi Maran, union minister for Information Technology and Communication.

Speaking to a television network, Maran said that Intel is looking at strengthening its presence in India. Craig Barrett, chairman of Intel Corporation, called on Maran at his residence at Chennai today.

Barrett, who is on his India visit, is expected to meet top government officials at New Delhi tomorrow.

According to some of the reports, the company is looking at an investment of $500 million in its India operations. It is said that the company is expected invest around $250 million in its R&D center in India.
