"Intel's Pentium III processor operating at 1 GHz is the highest performance microprocessor for PCs, enabling Intel's customers to ship the fastest personal computers in the world," said Intel Corporation Director South Asia Avtar Saini. "Intel continues to provide the best performance today and we have a microprocessor roadmap that will continue to keep our customers at the forefront of technology in the future."

According to a release, the latest Pentium III processor achieves the highest PC performance scores ever, based on today's most current industry standard benchmarks. The Pentium III processor 1 GHz achieves a SPECint2000 benchmark rating of 410 and a SPECfp2000 result of 284. This compares well with the respective scores of 355 and 256 for Pentium III processor with 800 MHz.

The release said that using the BAPCo's SYSmark 2000 running under Windows 2000, the Pentium III processor 1 GHz delivered a score of 188, surpassing the previous record of 170 held by an Intel Pentium III processor 800 MHz.

Pentium III processor 1 GHz is available now in limited quantities and is being offered by leading computer makers targeting today's PC enthusiasts, said the release. The Pentium III processor 1 GHz in SECC2 packaging is priced at $990 in 1,000-unit quantities.
