“There is no debate between Wimax and LTE adoption. It is the decision that has to be taken by service providers and business decision are not taken on the basis of technology. They have to choose technology that can increase penetration of broadband. The purpose of wimax was very clear to accelerate growth roadmap of wireless broadband,” said R Sivakumar, managing director, sales and marketing, Intel South Asia on the sidelines of an event organized by Intel here on Thursday.

“That goal has been clearly met. The crux of the thing is that LTE will come and it will get integrated in our platform whenever it is available,” he added.

Sivakumar said that it will be a separate decision whether Intel is itself going to build LTE chipsets or not but provision to integrate LTE will be surely made once the technology is widely available.

“We have not taken that decision to come up with our own LTE chips. In some ways that is second order decision. At the end of the day we sell computing platform and there is no reason that I will close my eyes to any technology. Both LTE and Wimax chips are built on the same core technology,” said Sivakumar.

On the occasion, Intel announced the launch of Intel AppUp centre, an application store which will have multiple range of applications that can be used on Intel platform.
