Intel, CLT to conserve eco-system

BANGALORE, INDIA: In an attempt to conserve the eco-system and keeping up with the spirit of Environment Day, Intel India in partnership with Children’s Love Castle Trust (CLT), has planted 1000 saplings and constructed 15 rain water harvesting tanks at Hathibelle village near Kurubarakunte, here.

Two hundred Intel volunteers were involved in this task and they also build three solid waste management. “The company and employees are involved in various community welfare activities. Apart from this, we are also conducting awareness program on the waste management, health and hygiene in the village,” said Rahul Bedi director, corporate affairs, South Asia and Business operations manager, Intel India.

This activity is done by Intel volunteers under ‘Volunteer Matching Grant Program’ (VMGP), a volunteer based community in which the Intel employees volunteer for such social welfare activities and the Intel Foundation would grant them $50 for their 20 volunteer hours. Rahul said, “this entire environment day activity has involved 2000 volunteer hours spent by Intel employees and the fund received would be contributed for the educational Institutions.”

Intel also contributed Rs 15 lakhs towards 17 government schools across Karnataka, from the so accumulated VMGP fund.

Speaking about the maintenance and monitoring the activities, “Its not a one day activity. We are associated with CLT from past four years and we work along with them to bring about a sustainable development,” said Bedi. “CLT monitors the development through out the year with the help Intel volunteers.”
